Applications in prescribed format (to be downloaded from the Institute’s web site are invited from interested Indian nationals for admission to the  Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. Programme in Physical Sciences (IntPPS), conducted by the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Kolkata in collaboration with Jadavpur University beginning from August 2016. A general candidate seeking admission to this course should have a minimum first division in both class X & class XII level examinations and a minimum first class (60% marks in aggregate in Physics Honours papers or equivalent) in B.Sc. (Physics Honours) with Mathematics and Chemsitry/Statistics/Others as subsidiaries or a first class (60% marks or equivalent in aggregate) in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry/Statistics/Others for universities that do not offer Honours degree at the B.Sc. level. Candidates belonging to the reserved category should have a minimum of 55% marks in both class X and class XII level examination and a minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in Physics Honours papers or equivalent in B.Sc. (Physics-Honours) with Mathematics and Chemistry/Statistics/Others as subsidiaries or 55% marks or equivalent in aggregate in Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry/Statistics/Others for Universitites that do not offer Honours degree at the B.Sc. Level. The candidate must also possess other qualifications as may be prescribed by the competent authority from time to time. Reservation of seats will be as per the Central Educational Institutions (Reservation In Admission) Act, 2006.


Admitted students will be entitled to a stipend of Rs. 12,000/- p.m. (fixed) for the first two years. On successful completion of the M.Sc. course Junior Research Fellowship will be awarded as per the prevailing norms (see at IACS website for detailed fellowship). It may not be possible to provide accommodation for all selected candidates.

Application Procedure:
Duly filled in applications (to be downloaded from IACS web-site) in prescribed format along with a self-addressed envelope (no need to send mark sheets and certificates with your application) should reach the Coordinator, Integrated M.Sc.-Ph.D. Programme in Physical Sciences, Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science, Jadavpur, Kolkata - 700 032 not later than 5.00 P.M. of 1-st July, 2016. The envelope containing the application should be marked as "Integrated Ph.D. Programme in Physical Sciences, IACS-2016". Applications received after due date will not be accepted. Interim queries will not be entertained. Candidates applying from the universities that do not offer Honours degree should clearly mention "Honours degree not provided" in their applications. The Candidate with Physics (Hons.) should provide only Honours marks, whereas the candidates from those universities that do not offer Honours degree, the marks should be provided as the overall percentage for Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. The candidates whose marks are given in CGPA or CPI, are advised to multiply their respective scores by a factor of 10 to obtain the percentage equivalent, e.g. if the CGPA/CPI score is 7.2, the equivalent percentage should be 72.00% Those who have appeared in the final examination may also apply but their final selection will be subject to securing the required percentage of marks in the qualifying examination.

Examination Fees:    Rs. 250/- for reserved candidates (SC/ST/OBC);
                                   Rs. 500/- for all other candidates.

Examination fees will have to be sent by a demand draft in favour of “INDIAN ASSOCIATION FOR THE CULTIVATION OF SCIENCE” payable at Kolkata and to be sent with the application. Examination Fee will not be returned if the application is rejected for any reason or if the candidate does not appear for the entrance test

Selection Procedure
Short-listed applicants will be required to appear for a written test to be held in Kolkata. Candidates further shortlisted on the basis of written test will be called for an interview, out of which maximum ten (10) candidates will be selected for admission. List of successful candidates will be displayed on the website of the institute. Outstation candidates called for interview will be reimbursed with Sleeper Class railway fare by the shortest route provided they are selected and finally join the course.


 Eligible candidates for the Entrance Test Examination, whose names appeared in the institute website but have not received the
            Admit Card/Call Letter from IACS before the examination date, are advised to appear in the written entrance test with 
            appropriate photo-identity proof.

No copies of mark sheets and certificates are to be attached along with the application.


Entrance test / Interviews will be held on mid July, 2016. Exact date and time will be announced on the website.


Duly filled in application in prescribed format should be sent along with the draft and a self-addressed envelope.
