   Research Interests

                Experimental Condensed Matter Physics, with special interest in magnetic and  electronic properties of rare-earth and 3d transition metal based intermetallic alloys as well as metal oxides. The present research topics involve,

                A major thrust of our research is to study the first order magneto-structural behaviour. Ferromagnetic shape memory alloys are very important materials where the key to their functional behavior lies in the field and temperature driven martensitic-type magneto-structural instability. Our aim is to study intriguing magnetic, electronic and structural properties of these alloys near the instability, particularly originated from phase-coexistence, metastability and glassiness.

                Different rare-earth based intermetallic alloys and compounds are also studied. Here our aim is to look for various functional properties including magneto-caloric effect and magneto-resistance.

                We also look for fundamental magnetic interactions in transition metal oxides having low dimensional magnetic character. These include spin chain compounds, spin ladders, layered magnetic systems, and spin clusters. The main interest here to understand phenomena related to quantum magnetism, such as dimerization, one dimensional spin correlations, spin fluctuations, spin frustration, and quantum criticality.
